#AtoZChallenge, 2018

E is for…

My theme for the A to Z April Challenge for 2018 is “Me and My Blog”

Definition : The study of the origin of words and the way their meanings have changed throughout history.

I love words. Discovering new ones, their origins and their meanings. I enjoy referencing back to Latin, Hebrew, Greek, Arabic and sometimes Celtic or Gaelic. I have an Etymology Dictionary which sometimes I just enjoy flicking through and finding something new.

My love for Etymology I think stems from the fact I don’t just like accepting things. I always ask why?

It is also interesting how the use of certain words has changed meaning over the centuries. Especially when you look at the origin of what we now consider to be swearing or rude words.

Even in my nearly 38 years on this earth have seen the use of the English language change, words change the usage and meaning.  If you enjoy writing and reading and have not considered a little dabble into the world of Etymology, you don’t know what you are missing. (okay that is my attempt to make it sound exciting…) You don’t have to buy a dictionary, there is an online dictionary available  <<click here>>
