A Night of Celebration

Last night / Earlier today (depending on your timezone) saw the worlds movie making glitterati all come together for the 90th Academy Award Ceremony, or as it is more commonly known, The Oscars.

I did consider staying up and watching it… however, I have no stamina anymore. Staying up past 10.30 pm is really hard. Instead, I have spent the morning watching the edited highlights and listening to those who didn’t get an invite, discuss what everyone was wearing.

It was so nice to see everyone in colours again. I personally feel that the way to conquer the bullies and perpetrators is to make yourself stronger. Action is what is required the #TimesUp for talking or wearing the same colour on the Red Carpet – now is the time for action. Everyone who has the capacity or ability to do something amazing should so they can make the path easier for those who follow.

The 90th Academy Awards was a night of celebration for those who worked on projects they are proud of.  No major mishaps this year to speak of, unlike last years “envelope-gate”. Best Actress Winner, Frances McDormand gave a great acceptance speech. Unfortunately, her Oscar was stolen but has since been returned to her.

I have not had opportunity to see most of the nominated movies or any of the winners. I cannot venture an opinion on movies I have not seen, however I was really pleased The Shape of Water won Best Picture. It looks really good, I might even get to watch it before the end of the year, never know.

I want to give a special mention to The Silent Child star Maisie Sly, who I think stole the show on the Red Carpet. This short film also won an Oscar. It was lovely that Rachel Shenton kept her promise and also delivered her speech in sign language.

I was also very pleased that Disney was awarded two Oscars for CoCo. I have not seen it yet but I have heard very good things about it and the song that won the Oscar is beautiful.

Below is a list of the Winners and Nominees for each category. I stole the list from one of the newspaper websites but cannot remember which one? Sorry.
